The beast has been tamed. Recently I revisited the first of my PLA series paintings in the round. In doing so I wanted to rework some of the previous flaws that I saw in the piece. First of my concerns was making the object functional and safe for a public setting. So I opted to use a 12 V variable speed motor rather than the previous motor pulled from a Dewalt torque drill. This allows the painting to rotate smoothly and at a safer speed, which I feel makes the object more satisfying and eye catching. I also added suspension to the motor mounting plate to increase stability throughout the shaft. As well as improvements to performance aspects, I also aimed to create a seamless and functional aesthetic. Which includes an a power switch and control knob on the outside of the object and multiple removable access panels to work on the object if needed in the future. Very excited with the improvements I was able to make. This has been a great learning experience and has got me ready and more prepared to build my upcoming objects for my undergrad senior thesis show.
